Cleansing Your Closet.

Between perfecting your morning routine, trying to look stylish/presentable and getting to eat breakfast before your day takes hold of you, the last thing you need is clutter in your closet or too much time spent trying to find the right outfit. Having an organized anything can make all the difference when it comes to productivity and gliding through your morning, setting yourself up to crush your daily to-do list. When I used to have to get up for work at 4:30am and be out the door by 5:30am trying to figure out what to wear first thing in the morning was a chore. Tired, groggy and digging through my closet meant I’d usually end up wearing all black and sometimes it was real obvious I didn’t have time to think through my wardrobe choices. Something had to change! Let me tell you what I did to minimize my time spent getting dressed so I could maximize my morning productivity! 

  1. Go to your closet, take everything out. 

Like everything. First off it’s going to be way easier to know what you want to keep and what you don’t if it’s all in front of you, plus you probably have shirts hiding in your closet from like junior high. Then do yourself a favor and clean the inside of the closet out! Wipe it down, dust it, vacuum it, whatever but clean it up. 

  1. Get rid of what does bring you joy.

That can be the hardest task of them all. Clothes, purses, shoes, and that one dress you bought for that party 6 years ago that you only wore once? it’s a lot, I get it. It can be hard deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, ask yourself some questions to help you create clarity around each item.

  • Will I actually ever wear this?
  • Do I have anything else that goes with this?
  • Do I even like this?
  • Do I feel GREAT wearing this or just okay?
  • Is it a duplicate? Do I really need 5 black v-necks?
  • Would I buy it again if I saw this in a store today?
  • When I wear this do I judge myself? 
  • When I see myself in a mirror do I love it or is it just so-so?
  1. Get rid of old worn clothing. 

Check for holes, color fading or just straight obvious signs of wear and tear. Look I get it you love those workout pants but friend, pants with holes are not a good look and I promise you can find a new pair you love. 

  1. Storage organizers are life changing.

Consider getting storage organizers or professionally installing a whole new shelving system. If you want to keep it on the cheaper side go to walmart or even amazon.com for inexpensive ways to organize your closet.   1. Organize that baby!

 Even if you decide not to purchase anything new to help with organization you can still keep things neat. Color coordinate clothes or create sections, group together long sleeves, tank tops, jackets, sweaters, maybe even work clothes or “going out” clothes.

Just remember, getting dressed in clothes that make you feel good will put you in a more positive mood all day because you feel good on the outside which makes you feel good on the inside.

Also keep in mind a cluttered, packed out closet is usually full of ill fitting, out of style, worn out clothes, shoes and purses. Picking out your outfit of the day with a clean and organized closet makes it easy and fun.
